Jousset Parfums Gourmand Bakhoor Extrait de Parfum is a true gourmand scent that reminded me of dulce de leche; caramelized, nutty, milky, and honeyed in its sweetness at times. It was a linear scent and very much smelled the same 12 hours later as it did in the first hour, which is great if you love the way it smells right away.
Gourmand Bakhoor Notes
It is described as the “sweetness from childhood [becoming] the delicacies of today” centered around gourmand Bakhoor.
- top notes: sugar, milk, honey
- heart notes: leather, caramel, Bakhoor
- base notes: tonka, vanilla, chocolate
What does Gourmand Bakhoor Smell Like?
It opened with an intense, deep-dark caramel with cocoa undertones and honey trickling into it. There was a booziness to it in a way–so heady, dark, and rich. Soon, it became nuttier, more multi-faceted with lighter caramel, golden honey, and milky chocolate.
After 10 minutes, an almost floral-like honey came through and settled over the chocolate base. It slowly became more buttery, sweeter and more golden over the next 20 minutes and transformed into dulce de leche, milky, caramelly, and vanillic.
It ended up having the same set of notes throughout the remainder of the wear–it became slightly milkier toward the drydown (about eight hours in), but there were very subtle changes that had more to do with the fragrance weakening slightly over time, though it was longer-wearing than most on me.
Longevity
It lasted for eight hours until it was a skin-scent and about 16 hours before it was quite difficult to detect on my skin. The sillage and projection were moderate and didn’t move close to the body/the skin until the fourth hour.
Personal Notes
These are more subjective feelings based on what I like (or don’t like) in a perfume as well as considering the fragrance against other perfumes I own and love.
Testing Methodology
For testing, I used 1/3 of a 0.7ml sample vial dabbed to the underside and topside of my wrist area. I used an unscented moisturizer prior to applying the scent as I found scent did not hold well here otherwise.
I purchased my sample in January 2022; fragrances are known to be reformulated over their lifetime, so be mindful of when a review was made, e.g. a review from 2010 may not reflect what the same-named perfume smells like in 2022.
Availability
Gourmand Bakhoor is available for $95/50ml.
If possible, I highly recommend trying a fragrance before purchasing a full bottle because fragrance can wear differently just because of skin chemistry. Skin chemistry can effect not just the longevity of a fragrance but also what notes are prominent or hidden.
Gourmand Bakhoor Samples
We recommend the following retailers for purchasing decanted samples (typically 0.7ml to 2ml in size). This is a fuller list, so individual availability may depend on inventory.
