Lancome Rosewood Ruby (214) L’Absolu Rouge Ruby Cream Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a muted, medium-dark pink with moderate, warm undertones and a satin finish. It had rich color payoff in a single layer, which applied evenly to my lips and didn’t emphasize lip texture.

The consistency was moderately dense and firmer in the tube, so it was better applied in shorter strokes rather than trying to do one, long fluid stroke as it did tug a little. Thankfully, the lipstick on my lips felt quite comfortable–lightweight, adhered but not clingy, and didn’t slide around during wear. It stayed on nicely for five and a half hours and felt lightly hydrating over time.

Formula Overview

$32.00/0.14 oz. - $228.57 Per Ounce

The formula is supposed to be "long-lasting," "richly-pigmented," and "hydrating" with "one-stroke application." The lipstick is denser with more tackiness, so it did seem to pull/drag on my lips during application a bit, though it delivered semi-opaque to opaque coverage that adhered evenly and was longer-wearing over time.

I'd recommend using shorter, more overlapping strokes to apply the color rather than a more continuous stroke, as this was comfortable and delivered full coverage and a smooth laydown of color overall. Surprisingly, the texture felt more like a traditional lipstick, the kind with more slip and creaminess, once on my lips, but it had better adhesion, which kept it in place better and prevented it from accumulating in my lip lines. Most shades wore five to six hours on me and were lightly hydrating.

There was a noticeable, powdery floral scent that translated slightly into a taste at times. It was a stronger scented product where I smelled it for a few hours into the wear, not just in the tube or when initially applied.

Lancome Coeur de Ruby (274) L’Absolu Rouge Ruby Cream Lipstick ($32.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a light-medium, orange-brown with strong, warm undertones and a cream finish. The texture was moderately dense, more like a velvety cream but firmer without much in the way of slip.

There was some tugging if I tried to do a longer, more fluid stroke, which would be what I’d do with most formulas, but it was comfortable enough to work with using shorter strokes. More importantly, it was comfortable once on my lips–likely warmed up after being on them–and felt lightweight, not clingy, and lightly hydrating over time. This shade had full pigmentation that lasted well for five hours.
