Viseart Violette Etendu Palette Review & Swatches

Violette

Viseart Violette Etendu Palette ($44.00 for 0.63 oz.) is inspired by the original Liaison palette, so there is a fair amount of overlap between this palette and that one if you already have it. Five shades, technically, though I felt like Fusion was different enough, and Violette was very similar to Ecstacy (from Liaison).

Sometimes I feel like Viseart eyeshadows are better described as particularly buildable and blendable–which a lot of people prefer and enjoy–which is more in line with how this palette actually performed: more buildable than intensely pigmented but often blendable and easy enough to work with. I have found the Viseart matte eyeshadow formula to be more powdery over time, which was true with the mattes in this palette.

Also, I’m not certain which shades actually contain it, but the ingredient list does have a +/- may contain of Red 28, which isn’t approved for eye usage by FDA (and is fine under EU regulations), so it would most likely be called out as a “pressed pigment” by most brands. Here, the whole palette is labeled as a “Professional Pigment Palette,” but on the website, there are several references to it being eyeshadow, so it’s a little confusing why there’s not an asterisk about it on the palette since it’s quite common for brands to include “pressed pigments” and just put in fine print that they’re not for the eye area.

Embrace

Embrace is a very light, rosy mauve with warmer undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage but was moderately powdery, so there was light fallout and a tendency for the shade to sheer out noticeably when applied–too readily. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Formula Overview

-

The eyeshadow formula is supposed to be "pigment[ed]" with "smooth and even application" that is "long-lasting." The matte shades are typically semi-opaque to opaque but buildable with soft, velvety textures that can sometimes be a little powdery or slightly firm, depending on the shade. I find that the mattes are often best suited to someone who likes control over pigmentation and may prefer to build up color; they regularly perform better in practice than just swatched on the arm as well.

The shimmer shades range from satin to metallic, and the more metallic shades tend to feel creamier to the touch, while the satin ones have a fine pearl to them that looks almost melted on the lid once blended out. Both the mattes and shimmers are blendable and easy to work with. Most of Viseart's eyeshadows wear between seven and nine hours on me.

Blushing

Blushing is a muted, medium plummy-taupe with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. The eyeshadow was richly pigmented with a soft, lightly powdery texture that had a touch of fallout, but it was blendable and easy to build back up. It wore well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably. It seemed slightly darker and cooler-toned than the original one I have.

Grenache

Grenache is a medium-dark mauve with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had rich color coverage that applied evenly to bare skin and blended out with ease. The texture was soft, lightly powdery but not prone to fallout or sheering out too quickly. There were signs of fading after eight and a half hours of wear.

Fusion (Violette)

Fusion (Violette) is a muted, medium-dark mauve with neutral-to-warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to medium pigmentation that was buildable to mostly opaque coverage. The texture was somewhat powdery, so it needed to be used with a lighter touch and pressed/patted into place prior to blending or else it was prone to fallout. This shade lasted well for eight hours before fading a bit. The color did seem cooler-toned this time around.

Bisous

Bisous is a muted, medium pink with moderate, warm undertones and a sparkling, metallic sheen. It had nearly opaque color payoff in a single layer, which applied smoothly to bare skin and blended out well. The texture was smooth to the touch, not too firmly nor too softly pressed into the pan, and easy to pick up with a dry brush. It wore nicely for eight and a half hours before fading visibly.

Wink

Wink has a light, almost bluish-aqua base with flecks of shimmer and sparkle that shifted from pink to violet. It had semi-opaque color coverage that gave me the sense that the base was a little translucent. The consistency was soft, more loosely-pressed but not powdery, so it picked up well with a brush and blended out without difficulty. This shade lasted well for eight and a half hours before fading noticeably.

Jezebel

Jezebel is a brighter, almost magenta-pink base with cooler, blue-to-violet shifting pearl that gave it a shiny, metallic finish. It had nearly opaque pigmentation paired with a lightly creamy, moderately-dense texture that wasn’t too thick nor too firmly-pressed into the pan. It stayed on nicely for nine hours before fading a bit.

Liaison (Violette)

Liaison (Violette) is a muted, light-medium pink with cooler undertones and a matte finish. The texture was somewhat powdery, though very blendable and easy to work with aside from light fallout. It had opaque pigmentation that adhered evenly to bare skin and wore well for eight and a half hours on me.

Haze

Haze is a light-medium lavender with cooler undertones and a matte finish. It had medium pigmentation, which was buildable to mostly opaque coverage with two to three layers. The consistency was soft, somewhat powdery but blendable and easy to work with–but it would be best for someone who doesn’t mind fallout. It stayed on decently for eight hours before fading noticeably.

Violette

Violette is a muted, medium-dark purple with subtle, cooler undertones and a pearly sheen. The texture was more emollient with greater slip to the touch, which made it apply better with a fingertip than a dry brush as a brush had a tendency to push the product around and leave an uneven application of color. It had mostly opaque pigmentation that wore decently for eight and a half hours on me.

Passion

Passion is a medium-dark purple with subtle, cool undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to medium, buildable color coverage that applied fairly evenly and blended out without too much effort. I felt like the swatch made it look worse than it performed in actual application. The texture was slightly drier and thinner but not powdery (which was an issue more prevalent in other matte shades in the palette). It lasted well for nine hours before fading visibly but did stain my lid.

Elderberry

Elderberry is a medium-dark plum with subtle, warm undertones and a matte finish. It had semi-sheer to medium coverage which was buildable to semi-opaque pigmentation with two to three layers. The texture was slightly thinner and more firmly-pressed, though not stiff and fairly blendable. There was room for improvement but it applied and performed better than the swatch alone would have indicated. It stayed on decently for eight and a half hours on me before fading a bit.
