Clionadh Chalice & Embroidery Hybrid Multichrome Eyeshadows Reviews & Swatches

Chalice

Clionadh Chalice Hybrid Multichrome Eyeshadow ($12.50 for 0.05 oz.) is a medium, golden brown base that shifted from strong gold to greenish-gold to pink. Per the brand, it has a “yellow/lime-silver-red” shift.” To my eye, the shade had less of a really distinctive, strong multichromatic shift as it did a light, multichromatic shift (orange to gold to green-gold) paired with more contrasting and twinkling sparkle, so it had a lot of dimension, shine, and reflective qualities.

The texture was soft, more loosely-pressed, so one should use a lighter hand with it, which ensures that excess product doesn’t loosen, but the actual formula has some creaminess to it, so it doesn’t just turn powdery like a typical eyeshadow (say, a powdery, matte eyeshadow). It had opaque color coverage applied with a fingertip as well as with a dampened brush and more buildable coverage from semi-opaque to opaque when applied with a dry brush (the latter not being called out as a recommended method but has worked very well for me across the brand’s formulas).

The eyeshadow applied well to bare skin and had good adhesion, despite being very sparkly (though finer sparkle). I didn’t need to use an adhesive base to prevent fallout; there was one or two stray flecks of fallout during application and blending, and there might have been a couple flecks after nine hours of wear.

Formula Overview

$12.50/0.05 oz. - $250.00 Per Ounce

This formula is described as being between the Jewelled and Glitter Multichrome formulas. They have "small/medium particle glitters" but with more of "the tones" of the Jewelled Multichromes. They can be used as a wash of "sparkle over the lid" or "packed on for full saturation."

The Jewelled Multichromes are opaque and can be applied with fingertips or a dense packing/shader brush, while the Glitter Multichromes have varying levels of opacity (the brand specifies on their site) that can be applied with fingertips or a dampened brush.

The texture was more loosely-pressed and less cream-like compared to the Jewelled Multichromes but was creamier and a bit more emollient than the Glitter Multichromes. They were mostly opaque to opaque in coverage applied with a fingertip or a wet brush and more semi-opaque and buildable with a dry brush. I didn't feel like I had to use a fingertip or a dampened brush in order to achieve higher coverage. I'd recommend pressing/patting the product on when using a brush to minimize or to avoid fallout.

The finish ranges from shiny with light sparkle to shiny with more moderate sparkle, and for as much sparkle as the formula has, there was little fallout during application and throughout the wear. The eyeshadows applied evenly to bare skin, blended out easily, and were definitely more user-friendly (and foolproof) compared to the Jewelled Multichromes, which I think aren't difficult but have a learning curve if you have not worked with black-based Multichromes before.

They lasted between eight and nine hours on me with minimal fallout, if any, over time.

Embroidery

Clionadh Embroidery Hybrid Multichrome Eyeshadow ($12.50 for 0.05 oz.) has a smoky, gray base that shifted from cooler-purple to bluish-teal to emerald green to warmer green and was paired with a metallic finish and a moderate amount of finer and larger sparkle. Per the brand, it has a “lime-blue with hints of purple” shift. On the lid, it was harder to see the blue-purple shift, but at certain angles, it was apparent; it was just that most of the time, it was more of a gold-to-green-to-deeper green shift.

It had a very shiny, metallic, and sparkling finish that yielded light fallout and more semi-opaque, buildable coverage when applied with a dry brush, but it had very little fallout and opaque coverage when applied with a fingertip or a dampened brush (recommended methods per the brand). The consistency was soft, more loosely-pressed but still had a good amount of binder, which ensured the eyeshadow adhered evenly and well to bare skin for longer wear. It lasted for nine hours with a smidgen of fallout over time.
